For those familiar with the hit television show, The Voice, you might recognize Bodie. The singer/songwriter was a season 22 fan favorite who turned all four chairs with his audition of The Fray’s hit song “You Found Me.” He went on to work with Blake Shelton as a vocal coach and performed as a finalist in the season finale of the show with a soul-filled rendition of Brandon Lake’s hit worship song, Gratitude.

In 2024, after his season on The Voice, Bodie joined Provident Entertainment and went on to release a cover of “Gratitude” which he debuted to his friend, Lake, and shared reaction on social media for fans to see. He released his hit single “RIP” a few months later and then announced his EP “Happy to Be Here” which was released in September of 2024.

Bodie, a Los Angeles native, sat down with Root & Vine to have an inspired conversation about music, faith, family, and more while filming his episode of  Our Story Our Song. Join us as we go behind the scenes of this episode to get to know the artist behind the music.

While thinking about being a Christian and also being a music artist, Bodie recalls the journey to finding the balance between being a Christian and being an artist that rose to fame on a secular show. “I’ve always been a Christian and an artist, but I’ve never really written music specifically saying, ‘Hey, this is who I am. This is what I believe,’ because my hope was that I wanted to reach everybody. I wanted everyone to feel safe and comfortable listening to my music.” says Bodie. But upon entering a new stage of life following his time on The Voice, he found that, despite the nervousness, there was an immense freedom in being able to joyfully share the two important sides of himself that go hand-in-hand.

Bodie found himself auditioning for The Voice twice, the first time making it to the final rounds of the pre-audition but then being cut in 2017. After a few years of the show asking him to audition again, he finally submitted an audition tape that led to him being a finalist on that season. “I prayed for second place. I got second place. Everything about it was just so perfect. The biggest takeaway from being on the show was just experiencing a level of favor that I didn’t expect to experience,” says Bodie, “I made it all the way through and didn’t have to compromise who I was. I was able to share my beliefs.”

As his career catapulted after his season on The Voice, Bodie stresses the importance of finding a way to balance his family life with his wife and three kids. For him, balancing how to stay present with family while being an artist that is performing, takes intentionality. While on the road, Bodie finds ways to interact with his family and meet their needs by staying connected to his kids and wife. “It’s been an ongoing lesson and I’m sure it’s just going to continue to evolve as we continue to chase this dream,” he says..

As a creator, Bodie draws similarities to the Lord’s creation in profound ways. “What an honor it is that we get to be placed in this beautiful place and to experience glimpses of him now with a promise of eternity with him later,” Bodie shares. In sharing similarities to the Creator and creation, he sees that creating is an expression and how we get to live that out in the vision that the Lord has placed in our hearts.

As Bodie is coming into the Christian music world, his music style challenges the normalcy of contemporary Christian music in a way that resonates with a younger audience. But despite that, his goal is to make music that resonates with all people in any area of life they might be in.

“Ultimately I want to share the gospel and share the truth and where my freedom comes from in the Lord. But if at the very least, I want to just give people a little glimpse of light in my music, that would be amazing.”

In this season of Our Story Our Song, Bodie takes us on a musical journey, sharing stories and lessons in the lush expansion of nature and invites us to consider the vastness and wonder of being honest and vulnerable with the Creator. He performs live under radiant light breaking through the stained glass windows of a charming chapel and takes to the serenity of nature to talk about his life, faith, and music.
