“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”John 6:35 NIV
King Arthur Baking Company has been busy at work creating baked goods, baking supplies, and spreading joy for over two centuries. From supplying flour for Martha Washington’s apple pie through the invention of “cake in a mug,” King Arthur has been there supplying the means.
Working towards a better future, King Arthur Baking Company believes in baking to make a difference, for people and the planet. King Arthur employees work closely with local farmers, millers, and suppliers to ensure their continued goal towards a more sustainable world.
King Arthur Baking Company is 100 percent owned by employees. In 1996 owners, Frank and Brinna Sands, decided to sell the business. In an effort to keep the legacy in caring hands they decided to sell directly to their employees. The sale was completed in 2004.
In 1992, the company launched their first outreach program, Bake For Good. Bake for Good is centered around three main goals; learning, baking, and sharing. Baking can be completed at home or with peers in the classroom.
Aside from teaching students math and science skills that will follow them throughout life, Bake For Good, helps foster positive initiatives with those less fortunate. Students bake two loaves of bread, one which they get to take home with them to share with family and friends, and the other which they donate to someone in need. The program is free to students, and available to classrooms and students during the school year.
What started off as less than 1,000 Connecticut based students, has now led into a nationwide baking program for students aged 4th through 12th grade. Through the program, King Arthur Baking Company has taught more than 90,000 students how to bake bread. Meaning 90,000 people were given bread, further helping communities around the nation.
